Shop Independent Durham Week is an annual Sustain-a-Bull event, now in its eighth year, that makes sure Durhamites turn to home-grown businesses first for their holiday shopping. Our Shop Independent Durham Week campaign packages give you the tools, exposure, and professional marketing materials your business needs to gain visibility with consumers and to stand out as a proud, locally owned, independent business. Shop Independent Durham Week launches on Small Business Saturday, November 24th, and runs through December 2nd. Small Business Saturday is a nationwide annual tradition started in 2010 that gets communities to support their favorite local businesses, drawing an estimated 108 million consumers last year.

Do I need to be a brick and mortar product-based business to participate?

No! We welcome all locally owned independent Durham businesses, regardless of your businesses model, service, or product. Wondering how our holiday campaign might work for you? Contact us and we can discuss tailoring a package to your business’ needs.

What do I need to do in order to participate?

Register here for The Independent ($45) or register here for the Sustain-a-Bull ($65). If you would like to offer special promotions, sales, events, or giveaways during Shop Independent Durham Week, please include that information in the space provided on the registration page. Please note special offers are not a requirement to participate. Pick up your campaign pack on Friday, November 10, 7-9pm at our launch party at Ponysaurus Brewing Co. If you need to make other arrangements to get your campaign pack, contact us.

What is an independent Durham business? Am I eligible to participate?

Does the price of the Shop Independent Durham Week holiday campaign relate to being a Sustain-a-Bull member?

No. This is a one-time fee to be part of the Shop Independent Durham Week campaign. We will open up tiered annual membership options for businesses, non profits, and community supporters in early 2019. Contact us to be the first to know when options are available.

What is the deadline?

The deadline to register is midnight on November 5, 2018.

When does the campaign officially begin?

The campaign to promote Shop Independent Durham Week begins on November 9, when all materials are made available to participating businesses and Sustain-a-Bull issues a press release announcing the event.  

Do you offer a discount for nonprofits?

Yes, we do! All nonprofits take 50% off the registration fee.

My business has multiple locations in Durham. Can I register all of them?

Yes. You pay the base rate (either $45 or $65) and then add an additional $10 per location.
